In the video, the focus is on teens. But, it applies to everyone.
Purpose: The more we know about how anxiety works in our brains and why anxiety occurs, we are better able to regulate and manage anxiety when it occurs.
Why is this important? If we can notice anxiety starting to arise we can implement mindfulness tools to help us calm down or respond more wisely to what is triggering us.
Breathe slowly through our nose.
Use our senses to come back to the present moment.
Do a quick body scan.
To Do: After watching this video, reflect on the questions below. You can also make a journal entry.
1. What is one new thing you learned from this video about anxiety?
2. Does knowing this information help you understand anxiety a bit better?
3. What is one mindfulness practice you can try to use the next time you feel anxious?
Remember, we are trying new things, tools, and ways of thinking to not be yanked around by our anxiety. Be gentle with yourself. Curious, non-judgemental, and kind.
